THIS RADIO STATION WILL NOT BE BROADCASTING IN 2015

Event Radio Associates and Gt Dorset Steam Fair Ltd wish to confirm that Steam Fair FM has now ceased broadcasting. This follows a review of the cost of providing the on-site radio station, which has been financed mainly by external advertising and sponsorship. Changes in the heritage market, and in particular the publishing industry have meant that Steam Fair FM’s main station sponsor for seven years has had to withdraw support. The show would need to increase its contribution, at a time when takings have been adversely affected by the bad weather problems of 2014, and have concluded that this is regrettably not feasible. The parties have therefore agreed amicably to suspend operations with immediate effect, Both have agreed to keep the door open to review in future.

Steam Fair FM has been the show’s radio station for 12 years, providing a round-the-clock service of show news and views, traffic and weather, competitions, and our famous “Vintage Hits” from the 50’s to the 80’s. In closing at this time, I would like to thank my co-founder Chris Evans, who was jointly responsible for creating the format of Steam Fair FM in 2003, and the team of volunteers who gave their time without payment to produce and present the programmes. I would further like to thank the many businesses, large and small, who used the facilities of Steam Fair FM to promote their products and services to the vast Steam Fair audience, and in turn provided the bedrock of our finances.. I make particular mention of Peter Johns and the team at Waterways World, former owners of Vintage Spirit Magazine, who worked enthusiastically with us over seven years as main sponsor, and helped to introduce initiatives such as the Great Dorset Photography Competition..They continue to host this website.

Thanks also of course to Martin Oliver and Julian Hubbuck and all the staff at GDSF who’ve given us their support and co-operation in making these broadcasts happen over the years.. And to the “characters” of the Steam Fair, like Dr Busker, who gave us a lot of fun. Most of all, I’d like to thank all the many thousands of wonderful Steam Fair fans for your loyal and enthusiastic support of the station. None of the team can recall seeing a local radio service achieve so much active support and enthusiasm from its listeners. We will miss you!
